The Zaragoza Marathon is one of the flattest and fastest marathons in northern Spain. Its course combines the grandeur of the River Ebro with the city's monumental heritage: in 42 kilometres it passes the Basílica del Pilar, the Puente de Piedra, La Seo, the Paseo de la Independencia and the riverside parks.

Whether you are running it for the first time or want to relive the course you already ran, this guide explains where it goes, what the elevation looks like and what you will find in each section.

The Ebro and the Basílica del Pilar: the soul of Zaragoza

The Zaragoza Marathon runs alongside the River Ebro, the great natural axis of the city, with the Basílica del Pilar as the defining feature of the skyline. Running past the Pilar with its four towers reflected in the Ebro is one of the most emotional moments on the course — a landscape only Zaragoza can offer.

The historic centre and Paseo de la Independencia

The course enters the historic centre via the Puente de Piedra and passes alongside La Seo, the cathedral-basilica that shares centre stage with the Pilar. The Paseo de la Independencia, the city's great boulevard, draws the loudest crowds and is where the atmosphere is at its most festive.

Riverside parks and the return to the Ebro

The second half of the course borders the riverside parks of the Ebro, with their tree-lined paths and river views. The flat profile and the final kilometres alongside the water make the Zaragoza Marathon a comfortable race all the way to the finish, with the Pilar always in the background.
