The Málaga Marathon is one of the most spectacular marathons in southern Spain. Its course combines the beauty of the Mediterranean coastline with the city's historical heritage: in 42 kilometres it passes the Seafront Promenade, the Alcazaba, the Roman Theatre, the Port and the historic centre.

Whether you are running it for the first time or want to relive the course you already ran, this guide explains where it goes, what the elevation looks like and what you will find in each section.

The seafront promenade and the Mediterranean

The Málaga Marathon has an incomparable setting: the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Seafront Promenade, with the sea on one side and the city on the other, is the most photographed kilometre of the race. Running alongside the Mediterranean in December, with winter sun and the city's festive atmosphere, is an experience few Spanish marathons can offer.

The Alcazaba, Roman Theatre and historic centre

The course passes alongside the Moorish Alcazaba and the Roman Theatre of Málaga, two of the most iconic monuments in the city and in all of Andalusia. The historic centre adds a unique cultural dimension: in this section spectators crowd the terraces and the narrow streets amplify the noise to a roar.

The Port and the final kilometres by the sea

The route skirts the Port of Málaga, with its cruise ships and the Carmen Thyssen Museum in the background, before tackling the final kilometres back along the seafront. The finish line, with the sea as a backdrop and Gibralfaro Castle visible on the hillside, is one of the most photogenic finishes in Spanish marathon running.
