Your pace band
Pace table · splits per km
Splits at even pace. On race day, start slightly slower and push in the second half.
Your target pace, kilometre by kilometre
Knowing exactly what pace to run is the difference between hitting your goal and blowing up halfway. This pace calculator gives you the precise pace in minutes per kilometre for the time you're chasing, and generates the full splits chart with your time at every kilometre.
Using the Riegel formula it also estimates your equivalent times across distances: know your 10K and you'll know what to aim for over the half or the marathon. And once your goal is set, download your free personalised pace band to wear on your wrist on race day.
Frequently asked questions
How is running pace calculated?
Pace is your target time divided by the distance. The calculator does it for you: enter the distance (5K, 10K, half or marathon) and the time you want to run, and it returns the pace in min/km you need to hold, plus your per-kilometre splits.
What pace do I need to run a sub-4-hour marathon?
To go under 4 hours over the marathon (42.195 km) you need an average pace of roughly 5:40 min/km. Enter 3 hours 59 minutes in the calculator to see the exact splits chart kilometre by kilometre.
What is a pace band?
It's a strip with your per-kilometre split times that runners wear on their wrist on race day to stay on target pace. Here you can generate one personalised to your goal time and download it free to print.
Are the equivalent times across distances reliable?
We use the Riegel formula, the standard for estimating your time at one distance from another. It's a solid starting reference, though your real result depends on your specific training for each distance.
