The Murcia Marathon route is a flat, urban course through the heart of the capital of the Segura. It runs through the old town, passes the Cathedral and follows the banks of the river, with Murcia's crowds filling the streets from the very first kilometre.
Whether you're running it for the first time or want to relive the course you already conquered, this guide walks you through where it goes, what its profile is like and what you'll find in each section.
The Murcia Marathon is fast and entirely urban. The route, with barely any elevation and the mild March weather, lets you hold a steady pace along the grand avenues and the streets of the city centre.
One of the most beautiful stretches passes Murcia Cathedral, with its spectacular Baroque façade, and the squares and pedestrian streets of the old quarter. It's the monumental heart of the city and the liveliest part of the whole race.
The course follows the river Segura, which crosses the city from west to east, passing historic bridges like the Puente de los Peligros. The riverside walks offer the calmest, greenest kilometres of the route.
Murcia is famous for the warmth of its crowds: the streets fill with locals cheering on every corner. That energy, combined with the flat course, makes the race one of the most enjoyable experiences on the southern Spain calendar.

It runs through the city centre past Murcia Cathedral, Plaza de Santo Domingo, the banks of the river Segura with the Puente de los Peligros, the Barrio del Carmen and the Jardín de Floridablanca, before finishing back in the centre.
The profile is essentially flat. As an urban course across the Segura plain, there are no significant climbs, making it a good option for a fast time.
Both the start and the finish are in the centre of Murcia, around the Gran Vía, in the heart of the city.
The Murcia Marathon is held in March, taking advantage of the mild south-eastern Spanish climate. It's one of the most popular urban marathons in the Region of Murcia.
