Beside the sea

The Malaga Half Marathon route runs beside the Mediterranean along one of the longest seafront promenades in Spain. It takes in the Port, La Malagueta and the Historic Centre, with the sea on one side for much of its 21 kilometres.

Whether you're running it for the first time or want to relive the course you already conquered, this guide walks you through where it goes, what its profile is like and what you'll find in each section.

A flat course beside the Mediterranean

The Malaga Half Marathon is fast and almost entirely flat. Much of the route runs beside the sea along the promenade, with the mild February weather letting you race in a vest while much of Spain shivers. It's an ideal course both to enjoy and to chase a good time.

The Port and La Malagueta

The route skirts the Port of Malaga and its modern Muelle Uno, and passes La Malagueta beach, the most central in the city. These are the kilometres with the best views, between the sea, the palm trees and the city skyline.

The Historic Centre

The course also heads into the Historic Centre, passing near the Cathedral, the Roman Theatre and the Alcazaba. It's the monumental heart of Malaga and the liveliest part, where the crowds cheer the runners on.

The seafront promenade

The stretches along the promenade, between the Port and the eastern neighbourhoods, are the soul of this half marathon. Flat, straight kilometres with the Mediterranean always in view, perfect for holding your pace to the finish.
