Start
25 de Abril Bridge

The Lisbon Half Marathon route has the most famous start on the calendar: the deck of the 25 de Abril Bridge, suspended over the Tagus, with the whole city at your feet. From there, 21 fast, flat kilometres beside the river to the historic district of Belém.

It's the SuperHalfs-circuit half and one of the most coveted in Europe. Whether you're running it for the first time or want to relive the course you already conquered, this guide walks you through where it goes, what its profile is like and what you'll find in each section.

The start on the 25 de Abril Bridge

No other race begins like this. Runners line up on the deck of the 25 de Abril Bridge, the great red suspension bridge linking Lisbon with Almada, and cross the Tagus on foot in the opening kilometres. The views of the river and the city from high on the bridge are the image that defines this half marathon.

A fast, flat course beside the river

After coming off the bridge, the route joins the Tagus waterfront and never leaves it. It's almost entirely flat from start to finish, which — together with Lisbon's mild March weather — makes it an ideal course for a personal best over the half marathon distance.

Belém: towers and monasteries

The final part runs through Belém, the district of the discoveries, past the Belém Tower and the Jerónimos Monastery. Running these last kilometres with the river on one side and Manueline stone on the other is the reward for one of the most beautiful half marathons in the world.

How it differs from the autumn half

Lisbon has two different half marathons. This one, the spring race (March), starts on the 25 de Abril Bridge and finishes in Belém. The autumn one starts in Parque das Nações, in the east of the city, by the Vasco da Gama Bridge. Two different courses through two different parts of Lisbon.
