Whether you're running it or reliving the course you already ran, this guide explains where it goes, what its profile looks like and what you'll find in each section.

42 km through the most beautiful canals in the world

The Venice Marathon is one of the most spectacular on the planet. Few races can boast of finishing by crossing the canals of a city unlike any other, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Running Venice means running through history at every step.

The Riviera del Brenta and its villas

Much of the route runs alongside the Brenta river, along the Riviera del Brenta, dotted with historic Venetian villas that were once the summer residences of the nobility. It's an elegant, green start before reaching the city.

The Liberty Bridge and the finish in Venice

The climax comes when crossing the Liberty Bridge, which links the mainland with island Venice. The final kilometres run over walkways crossing the canals to the finish, in the historic heart of the city.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the Venice Marathon route go?

The course starts in Stra, on the Riviera del Brenta, and runs along the Brenta river past historic Venetian villas. It then heads to Mestre and crosses the spectacular Liberty Bridge into island Venice, where it finishes in the city's historic heart, near St Mark's Square.

What is the Venice Marathon elevation profile like?

The profile is mostly flat, with the only quirk being the temporary walkways built over the canals in the final kilometres inside Venice. October's cool weather and the absence of climbs make it fast and highly enjoyable.

When is the Venice Marathon?

In October. Founded in 1982, it's one of the most spectacular marathons in the world thanks to its unique setting: few courses finish by crossing the canals of a UNESCO World Heritage city.
